5 + 1 SUPERVISON GUIDELINES
Below you will find all aspects that are required for a provisional psychologist to complete their 5 + 1 Internship.

COMPLETE A LOGBOOK - to be completed weekly
The LOGBOOK is made up of 3 sections.

Section A of the logbook is a weekly record of your professional practice, which includes client contact and client related activity.

Section B of the logbook is a weekly record of your Professional Development.

Section C of logbook is a record of your recorded supervision for that week. This includes supervision sessions with your Primary Supervisor, Secondary Supervisor, any other approved supervision and any Group Supervision sessions you may have had.
ATTEND ONGOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Professional development is led or directed by the supervisor and involves practice-based learning activities focused on the achievement of the core competencies.

The provisional psychologist must undertake PD activities relating to the core competencies.

In consultation with the principal supervisor, the provisional psychologist should design a Professional Development (PD) plan with clearly identified learning aims that meet the provisional psychologist’s practice requirements and the eight core competencies of the internship

COMPLETE FOUR CASE REPORTS
During the course of your Internship, you will be required to complete 4 Case Reports. It is advised that you start this process early into your internship. Writing Case Reports will support in increasing your report writing skills along with support you in your exam preparation.

The remaining 2 Case Reports need to be approved by your Primary Supervisor

Case Reports to be 2,500 words and no more than 2,750 words

FORMS:
COMPLETE DIRECT OBSERVATIONS

During the course of your internship, every 6 months, you will be required to complete 2 assessment and 2 intervention observations to your supervisor. This is a total of 4 observations every 6 months.

Direct observation refers to a supervisor observing a provisional psychologist during a sessions with clients - observation can be live or recorded.

The supervisor watching a videotape or video-conference of the provisional psychologist's practice with clients can meet the requirement if there is an image of each of the parties, including a clear view of facial expressions.

Before any observation is recorded Informed Consent must be obtained from client being recorded.

COMPLETE SIX MONTH PROGRESS REPORT(S)

Every 6 months you will be required to complete a progress report

You have one month to submit your form from its due date.

COMPLETE NATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY EXAM

At some stage during your internship, you will be required to sit the National Psychology Exam.

Study for your exam will be ongoing during your internship and you may also wish to attend workshops dedicated to the National Psychology Exam.

COMPLETION PROGRESS REPORT

​Once you have completed your exam, supervision hours, professional development, case reports and direct observations you can apply to AHPRA for your Final Assessment of Competence and Apply for your General Registration.
